Hi, My name is Charlie Aquilina and I have recently moved to Newcastle after 25 fantastic years of living in the village of Nabiac on the Mid North Coast of NSW.My partner Kerry and I moved to Nabiac from Sydney as we thought it would be the ideal place to bring up our three children and have had some great times, made some great friends and fantastic memories.
Fast forward 25 years and kids have left home and we thought it was time to make a culture change and move to our house in Mayfield which we purchased 15 years ago as an investment.
I started my working life at the age of 15 as an Apprentice Fitter and Turner with PMG (Post Master General) which later changed its name to Telecom Australia then Telecom, and now its fondly or not so fondly known to many as Telstra.
After 10 years service with Telecom I decided I’d had enough of working indoors and thought I needed some glamour in my working life. I took on the position of Maintenance Officer/Lifeguard at Warringah Aquatic Centre, which was the predecessor to Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre. While working at Warringah Aquatic Centre I completed the TAFE NSW Public Swimming Pool Supervisors Certificate and also the Swimming Pool and Spa Technicians Course run by the Swimming Pool and Spa Association of NSW.
When we made the move to Nabiac a new pool had just been constructed at Forster and I took up the position of Maintenance Officer/Lifeguard/Assistant Manager/Fitness Instructor at the Great Lakes Aquatic Centre. While working at the GLAC many of the patrons would ask me pool maintenance related questions regarding their pool at home. After so much positive feedback and encouragement I decided to start my own pool servicing business. Over the following years I slowly built the business up relying mostly on word of mouth from happy customers and it wasn’t long before it was a full-time job for me, also employing casual staff to help out in the busy summer season. Apart from domestic customers I also established a good rapport with all the resorts, real estates, body corporate managers and local Councils in the area which provided work for me all year round, even in the winter months.
My Newcastle business is a mobile pool service and by not having a pool shop, I can keep overheads down and pass on the savings to my customers. I hope I can help you with any of your pool problems or if you have any questions on how you should be maintaining your pool, please give me a call.
